MAIZE - WISH, DREAM AND WONDER

Maize - dream, wish and wonder Posted by Hello

Maize - how little i know

I have days when I forget things... where did I put my keys, oh I can't find my glasses, did I set that bill on the counter or did I mail it. This is just the half of it... One day I put the windex in the refrigerator. This kind of absent mindedness or problem of not being present shows me why I like art and drawing, reading and writing. It shows me how little I know and how far I have to go. So many books to read. Right now I am reading Christopher Reeve's book, Nothing is Impossible... I just started and it has gotten me to thinking about how much in this world there is to learn.

Today I am particulary amazed that I have this little tickle of want - to learn to draw and to share... It is not fancy, but it is something I can do. It is something that I enjoy.

Life is complicated and silly sometimes so it is at those times I need to stop, sit and draw. Maize was one of those times in the last year. I love drawing mazes, I love black in on yellow paper or black ink on any paper. In drawing this I got a little lost but lost in a fun way. Do you have a favorite thing to draw?

Kitchen "Tin" - OLD BAY

OLD BAY "Tin" Posted by Hello

Hi - I just love Old Bay. I use it on chicken, turkey, popcorn and eggs. When we have fresh seafood Old Bay is an essential! Tasty on shrimp, crabs, flounder or cod!

Basically I think the reason that people in Maryland love their crabs so much is that they get to have their "fix" of "OLD BAY".

When I was in Portland, Oregon I asked a Subway sub preparer for Old Bay on the sub and he said, "What's that?" I was befuddled (not openly) could I eat the sub without Old Bay?

This was fun. Can you find my "Marty Scorcese" from around Oscar time? Hint: He's the guy with the wild eyebrows sitting next to half the lips in Hollywood. Hee...hee... hee.

A girl can dream...

It is cold, wet and rainy here in Md. today... I kinda love this type of weather as it reminds me of ... oh I don't know ... being in another place. A place where there are no dishes to wash, clothes to pick up and fold or trash to take out. This magical place is where no one has pain or we don't have to go to work and there are no worries for money. Isn't this place called the the big rock candy mountain? (love that song...)

A girl can dream, this girl does...
Do you think that it is funny that I am forty-five years old and still think of myself as a girl? I do, but I'm happy with the term. So much better than frumpy mom or a plethora of other things I could be called. Does anyone remember the Carol Burnett show, she had a character that would always use the term "ladies, ladies, ladies" ugh, um ... not for me.

have a fun day and fill it with dreams!

Bloom Re-run

I love flowers - even though I sure can't grow them - so I am reposting a watercolor in orange. It is cropped and showing a different view, I just like it and hope that you do too.

It is windy and cool here, how is it where you are?

BLOOM II - A sleepy watercolor

March 21 – I think is the first day of Spring.
I thought that I would show one of my abstract
watercolors of a blooming flower…

It is kind of sleepy as am I this day.

St. Patrick's Writing

I arise today:
in the might of heaven,
in the splendor of the sun,
in whiteness of snow;
irresistibleness of fire,
swiftness of lightning;
absoluteness of the deep;
in speed of wind,
rock’s durability…

Eye of God for my foresight,
ear of God for my hearing;
word of God for my word,
hand of God for my guard,
shield of God for my protection,
against any demon’s snare,
against all vice’s lure,
against ill-wishes far and near...

Line Work - Ireland 2002 - Howth

View from the train to Howth Posted by Hello

I thought Howth was one great village. If I am remembering correctly it is about 30 minutes north or northeast of Dublin. From the train the I remembering seeing barns or sheds in the fields before arriving at the train depot in Howth. Also I remember the nice old lady woman we met on the train, she was going up from Dublin for her weekly card game she was kindly and originally from France.

It is so different in Ireland on the train, people actually talk. Not so in US, you might see the same person everyday and never even say hello. Sometimes newer is not better.

Recollections & Senses from Ireland

It has been exactly 3 years since I was to Ireland to visit my cousins in Roscommon. We were there about three days and it strikes me that I miss Ireland still today. I was there on Saint Patrick’s Day and my cousin Mae gave me a white-green-orange cross grain ribbon with a harp on it. Really in Ireland the day is more a feast day somewhat solemn compared to the wild nature of Saint Paddy’s day in the U.S.A. No corned beef and cabbage in Roscommon that I recall. Roscommon to me is very rural but it still has allure. What that allure is I cannot really put into words. It was beautiful, gentle and quiet. Some of the most compelling memories I have are the mists over the fields and grayness of sky over the deep green grass, the green was more like an “evertree” green than I ever recall seeing. One of the most striking places that I saw was a memorial that my cousin Paddy had advocated. It was a field memorial to un-baptized children, I guess it used to be that children who still born or sick un-baptized could not be buried in the Catholic cemetery in the past. This practice in my mind was truly a sin by the priests of the day to be so closed-minded. Paddy knew of the wrong that had been done, he must of advocated that the field be blessed and consecrated and a stone memorial has been erected on that land. This was done to finally honor those children and their families. I have a picture of it somewhere and when I find it I will post. This field must have been an area where everyone knew what was happening, families were shamed by the events – Paddy said that people had to run down to the field in the dark to bury their young – shamed even though the might have crushed hearts, but not ever really able to have the problem discussed openly.

Ireland in general has a smell was constant peet burning. One does get used to it. However as an American I love the smell of oak from the fire and so the two don’t compare it is apples and oranges. Really it is all boiled down to what one is brought up on. Near the coast north of Dublin in a town called Howth all I could smell was fish, not my favorite but it is funny how one can get used to it so fast. In Dingle I recall the smell of peat more than fish.

I did have trouble driving in Ireland, everyone else seemed to drive so fast and I could not. The shift from driving on the right to driving on the left really was not a problem for me but the speed on teeny-tiny roads really scared me.

One sense truly evoked was that of hearing, music was wonderful in Dublin and especially Dingle… at a place called the Small Bridge.

Celtic Bird - No. 3 - used for i-fri

ANCIENT - Celtic Bird Posted by Hello

Truly I enjoy Celtic Art and I am just learning but this bird in history was usually a peacock or variation of that. I hear that a Celtic Bird has been used as myth and legend to be linked to spirit soaring in freedom. What a cool ANCIENT concept!

ANCIENT 1 for i-fri

ANCIENT - CELTIC CROSS Posted by Hello

I saw plenty of these when I was in Ireland, turns out that the crosses started to spring up around monasteries in the timeframe of 450-650 A.D. I think that qualifies for ancient. I guess I am also stunned that many originals said to still be around in Ireland today such as at the Rock of Cashel near Tipperary.

Waiting on Spring

Waiting on Spring Posted by Hello

We had rain then snow and now the wind is howling. As I sit looking out the window I see a stretch of land where the snow lay and the wind is moving the fine snow from one side of the yard to the other. It is now only about two weeks until spring and I can't wait!!

Good & Bad

Here are some things I am grateful for: SUN SHINE, SODA and SONGS
on the radio.

Today I am just exhausted and unfortunately I cannot even tell you why. Many times I feel like I just run and run and run but not very well. I trip, I fall, I get up and right now I just can’t go fast so I will walk slowly.

Something I despise adult acne,
something I am grateful for, well see the picture ...
