Paul Klee. Muro. Wyeth. Warhol. These were new names/new work for me the fall of 1959, the year I enrolled in Pasadena City College, Ca. I had turned 21 that August. I had finished 3 years of Army service - 30 months in Germany. I was the first in my family to attend college. I took every art class I could qualify for. And found a whole new word. Growing up in Arkansas, attending a rural school, I had never had an art lesson, even an appreciative one. But I loved to draw. Inspired by comics. I drew and I drew from 1st grade on. I just hadn't realized the world beyond Pogo and Mad and Dick Tracy ...so...Wow! And Klee, for whatever reason, stayed with me. Today, my post (your Klee triggered it) will be a page or two from Notches done sometime ago remembering that world. Thank you. -- Ralph.
